Meet Our Trustees

Blues Preschool & Nursery is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) (registered charity number: 1156613), which has been set up exclusively for charitable purposes and to benefit the public. This means we are required to have a board of Trustees to oversee the management of our staff and setting.

Our Trustees provide essential roles of governing Blues by ensure that its assets, employees, and activities are managed effectively to achieve its purposes. They are ambassadors for Blues and the purposes we are trying to achieve.

Our Trustees meet with our management team on regular basis to discuss and oversee what is happening within our setting, make decisions on any changes or improvements and decide where and when money needs to be spent.

According to the Charity Commission for England and Wales, the definition of a Trustee is as follows:

"Trustees have independent control over, and legal responsibility for, a charity's management and administration. They play a very important role, almost always unpaid, in a sector that contributes significantly to the character and wellbeing of the country."

"Trusteeship can be rewarding for may reasons - from a sense of making a difference to the charitable cause, to new experiences and relationships. It's also likely to be demanding of your time, skills, knowledge and abilities."

EMMA - Sustainability Lead, Corporate Fundraising & Grant Applications

Emma is a newly appointed Trustee who is the Trustee lead for corporate fundraising and grant applications at Blues as well as holding general Trustee responsibilities. Emma works full time as a solicitor in London and joined the Blues Trustee Board as a result of her daughter attending the preschool in 2023, wanting to ensure that Blues remains a consistent option for childcare in the local area.

PHILLIP - Policies & Data Protection

Phillip is a newly appointed Trustee responsible for overseeing Policies and Data Protection. A highly experienced compliance officer with over 20 years in financial services, Phil also has a personal connection to Blues; his daughter Sophie's attendance in 2023 inspired his decision to become a Trustee.

KATIE - Secretary, Parent Liaison & Fundraising

"I have over 15 years experience in the education sector and since having my own children and leaving the profession behind, I still wanted to be involved in education in some way. Whilst we are a 'Team of Trustees' , my specific roles are being the parent liaison; meaning if you have a concern with Blues and you feel that you cannot approach a member of staff then you can get in touch with me instead. I have also always got my thinking cap on for ways to fundraise for Blues; as a registered charity we are always wanting to raise money so that we can continue to give our children the best possible start to their journey in education."

LYNNE

"I am an experienced charity Trustee including of the Bishop's Stortford YMCA, various Methodist committees and more recently as Co-ordinator of the Bishop's Stortford Child Contact Centre. I have been minute-taker for a local secondary school's governing body and for a national Methodist committee. I have attended charity governance courses.

In 2009 I took on responsibility for publishing a magazine edited by volunteers which involved financial, design, editing, employment and management responsibilities. This was my biggest learning curve but a source of great delight also.

I have local contacts and awareness of local and national funding possibilities.

I was a Blues mum and committee secretary when my children were young and I'm happy to be involved once again."

SOPHIE - Nursery Trustee Chair & Staff Liaison â€‹

"I joined the board of trustees at Blues as a parent with a child attending the nursery, looking for a meaningful way to get more involved in the community. As a stay-at-home parent, I wanted to contribute my time and energy to something fulfilling, and supporting Blues felt like a natural choice. I'm committed to supporting the nursery’s staff, families, and future development through my role on the board."
