About Blues Pre-School
Started in 1979 by a small group of local mums
with only 2 staff and 16 children, Blues Pre-School now has 80 children
on the register and 6 members of staff. In our morning sessions we work
on a ratio of 1 staff member to 6 children which exceeds the Ofsted
recommendation of 1:8.
Until 1987 we rented a room at the Bishop's
Stortford Football Club, from which we took our name. We are now the
proud owners of our own building, which was donated by East
Hertfordshire Council. We also have a large, safe garden for
stimulating outdoor play.
Aims
Parents have the greatest influence on their
child(ren) and have a unique role to play in their development. We aim
to support and extend that role in partnership with parents in the
rewarding task of caring for your child. We believe that very young
children learn best in a structured play situation. We stimulate their
physical, emotional, intellectual and social development, encouraging
them to be independent and confident.
What your child will achieve is to some extent
dependent on how long they attend pre-school. They will be given
opportunities to develop their language skills to enable them to
communicate both with their peers and adults. They will enjoy stories
and have opportunities to gain pencil control and co-ordination. During
each session children are encouraged to recognize their own name and,
when ready, to try and write it.
Your child will be encouraged to learn shapes and
colours, to gain numeracy skills and to explore weighing, measuring,
quantity and volume.
We encourage creativity through painting,
craft activities and music. Children use their imagination as they play
with trains, cars, construction kits, dolls houses and in the home
corner. There are also opportunities to discover more about the world
around them through projects such as the weather, mini beasts, space
and dinosaurs.
Our safe, spacious outdoor area enables children to develop their
physical skills, to play imaginatively and constructively on a large
scale and to enjoy the freedom of being outside.
Whilst enjoying being at pre-school, children
also learn social skills such as getting on with
other, being independent and making friends. Taken
together, their experiences at Blues Pre-School will gives them the
best possible start to their school life.
